Dom or the miniwaves craze
'Is it real??!' 'I wanna go!' 'Total fake!!' 'Wow!' 'Bullshit!' When the line between #fakenews and #truth gets blurred at top, #wave edits like @miniwavesbydom go viral.
#photoedits are nothing new to the #surf world: @worldsurflols is solidly established in that arena. #miniwaves have also been around for some time, thanks to pioneers like @debmwaveart who have carved a niche out of #shorebreak photography. Where Dom Bakarich comes in, is when #minipros and collaboration are added to the mix: 'hunting mini waves is one of my favourite hobbies' says Dom.
Based in #Newcastle, NSW, Dom can spend hours shooting waves that will stand out and 'make him think 'that looks like a mini #Chopes, or Mavericks or Nias'! When I get home I see if I can replicate what was in my head.' Nowadays, most of the waves come through #mashmeup, his hashtag, which have been picked up by the likes of @whoisjob or @markmathewssurf. 'At the moment I'm working 2 jobs trying to make ends meet and trying to get through as many edits as I can after work. It gets a little overwhelming at times. While I think it was a bit of a laugh at the start, I'm now appreciative I have made so many people mind-surf mini waves. And there's a certain mystique about #surfing the un-surfable, albeit with the mind :)' 📷: @jordanstempson @miniwavesbydom #freesurfspirit
